Overview

Stratos AL 3.0 is the mountain bike recreational riders have been waiting for. Silverback’s POP geometry makes it a strong climber and a balanced confident descender. The linkage driven asymmetric single-pivot suspension is tuned for optimal small bump sensitivity and big-hit compliance without power delivery penalties. The suspension curve is designed to offer full use of available travel. The Stratos AL 3.0 is based on the groundbreaking Stratos CF race-machine but adapted to offer a more capable bike for the everyday rider. Trails, XC or marathon, the Stratos AL is the right mountain bike for the right price for the job.

Why it's best

  1. Stratos AL3 shares the innovative alloy frame found on the AL1 and AL2. The asymmetric shape, smooth welds and cable routing really has to be seen up close to appreciate the amount of detail that has gone into the design.
  2. Stratos AL3 is ready for the avid weekend warrior. Quality components and a superb suspension system makes for a bike that's equally at home on the local trails and start line of a marathon race.
  3. A 12 speed Eagle drivetrain gives you all the benefits of 1x. Easier climbing gears, decent top speed, adequate chain retention over rough terrain, a single shifter to make life easier and evenly spaced gears, to keep cadence natural and steady while shifting up or down.
  4. AL3 is a POP geometry bike - the rider is in the Position of Power, meaning stronger power delivery, better balance and improved handling.
  5. With a shorter seat tube and dropper post compatibility, you can buy the AL series of bikes to suit your ideal reach and not just to suit your inseam - size up or down depending on your preferred setup.
  6. Featuring 120mm of suspension travel front and rear, the AL3 is ready for when you step up your technical skills!

Engineering Notes

1x drivetrain specific design

Front derailleurs are dead. With that comes a wider main pivot bearing stance for increased stiffness.

Asymmetric 6061 Alloy frame

Asymmetric tubes allow for the dispersion of shock forces between the top tube and downtube. At the riding sag point most of the shock forces are directed along the top tube. At suspension bottom-out, the rear shock rotates and shock forces are split between the top tube and downtube via the single sided support strut. Smooth welds create the great look and smooth lines of carbon fibre, without the cost implications.

Burst Pivot suspension

BURST Pivot is the XC/Light Trail implementation of our popular BURST platforms. It combines great pedaling performance with a progressive endstroke to create a platform that reacts intuitively to different circumstances. Seatstay mounted pivots - Large bearings near the dropouts ensure a good service life.

Dropper post ready/compatible

With dropper posts becoming standard on all disciplines of mountain biking, this was a no-brainer; what's more interesting is where this technology is headed. Stratos can accomodate much longer droppers, giving the rider more options and freedom of movement.

Metric shock

Metric shocks perform better and have optional bearing hardware for low friction rotation, supported on the rocker side.

Pop geometry adapted for xc/trail/marathon

As modern XCO and XCM courses become more technical, we've adapted the bikes to suit not only the current trails, but also where XC is headed. Slacker head angles and longer wheelbases, along with other geometry and suspenstion tweaks allow for a bike that is more capable and forgiving on the downhills, but does not sacrifice any uphill ability in the process. Stratos AL has 120mm travel and has some geometry changes that give a slightly more relaxed ride that its carbon fibre counterpart, aimed at riders looking to spend longer days in the saddle or dabble in trail riding.

Sheathed cable routing

All the looks of internal cable routing, but without the hassle. Cables run underneath a polyurethane sheath on the downtube, which hides the cables but can still be removed for ease of maintenance.

Tapered Pivot and bearing details

The massive main pivot uses angular contact headset bearings, with the larger 52mm bearing used on the drive side to cope with the additional chain forces. The angular contact design allows for bearing wear to be tightened out - the same as would be done at the headset and topcap.

When is comes to water bottles, two is definitely better than one.

What an amazing bike! Value for money!
I have to be honest, this is a big upgrade from my previous hardtail which was still 3×9. It is also my first dual susser, though I’ve used a few in the past.
Where to begin… Looks incredible and draws attention… Lekker windgat!
It rides like a dream. I’ve been climbing technical pieces which previously I battled with, with much more ease, and the decents are amazing. I love the dropper post in the more hectic pieces, comes in handy.
I sit very comfortably on the bike, on flats and during climbs.
My 1×12 gear ratio has been a revelation and the SRAM Eagle components which goes with it very smooth!
Riding it straight out of the box I must say I cannot see myself upgrading too much too soon.
This is a lot of bike for a decent price.
Test it if you must… Buy it if you can!
    Loving it!

An aboslute great bike. You won’t get better value for money. Apart from it’s unreal aesthetics, the bike rides incredible. The components are great and the dropper post makes a massive difference on those technical decents.
For those who don’t have the big bucks this is really the bike to have.

Truly happy with my AL3, craving the CF1!
