Victory for Jennie Stenerhag and Luke Moir on the Silverback Stratos.
Silverback rider, Jennie Stenerhag riding for ABRO secured the Pearl Izumi MTB ladies title. The race took place in Uppsala on Saturdays the 18th May 2019.
The rain poured down before the start of the race but stopped as the gun went off. The ladies raced for about 10km before the leading bunch of 4 broke away.
“It was the same ladies as at Lidingö MTB Race a few weeks ago, Åsa, Hanna, Emmy and I,” says Stenerhag.
“I lost traction on a corner and hit the ground hard. With only 4-5 km to go, I got a bit of a fright but managed to get up quickly and chase Hanna back,” she adds.
The race concluded on a tar climb leading up to the well know Uppsala Castle. “It turned out to be a bit of a cat and mouse game as we approached the finish line no one wanting to take the lead.”
“I felt calm and gave it my all and succeeded to pass her to take the win by a few meters. I was very happy with how it all worked out and so stoked to take the win.”
Jennie and her Silverback Stratos managed to escape Hanna Cykel and to take the win on the hill sprint.
In Albstadt, Germany:
Nicola Rohrbach and Mariske Strauss raced the first leg of the UCI MTB XCO/XCC race this past weekend in Albstadt, Germany.
Both riders put on a strong performance. The Silverback Stratos and the Superspeed put in an awesome shift in the mud!
On Friday the 17th May, Mariske was part of the opening Short Track Race. Mariske fought back and came away with 29th place.
On Sunday morning, Mariske Strauss took to the start line again. The race was mentally challenging as well as physically demanding.
“It was a rough day out; it is part of the game and back to the drawing board for me. I will need to fine-tune a few things and prepare for the next race,” adds Strauss.
On to Sunday afternoon, Nicola Rohrbach lined up with the Elite men. It was a fast start and after 5 minutes into the race, it started to rain. As a result, things extremely hard and slippery.
“I struggled in the muddy conditions, and that after a solid start. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find my usual speed for a solid performance,” adds Rohrbach.
Time to wash off the mud and pack up and head to Nové Mesto, Czech Republic for another World Cup race.
